Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Software Development (Level 8)



Overview
The Bachelor of Software Development (Honours) enables you to develop the skills and knowledge that you need to develop software for our evolving technological world. The programme will equip students to become competent software developers or IT managers as they engage with design, development and programming throughout their degree.
Course Structure
In this four-year programme, students will complete the first two years in Cork College of FET – Morrison Island Campus followed by two years in MTU – Cork Campus. Students register with MTU from year one and will have access to the full range of services offered by both MTU and the FET college.
Accreditation and Step Back Awards
- On successful completion of Stage 1 (Year 1), students will receive QQI level 5 award 5M0529.
- On successful completion of Stage 2 (Year 2), students will receive QQI level 6 award 6M0691.
- On successful completion of Stages 3 and 4 (Years 3 and 4), students will graduate with the MTU award of BSc (Hons) in Software Development (MT800).
Entry Requirements
Candidates seeking entry to this programme should ideally have a minimum of a pass in Mathematics and English at Ordinary Level Leaving Certificate and display an active interest in information and communications technology. Some experience with computer programming or coding would be advantageous. All prospective candidates will be interviewed, and places will be awarded on merit.
Applicants whose first language is not English and who have not been educated through the medium of English must demonstrate CEFR 19 proficiency at B2 for access. An Irish Leaving certificate qualification achieved through English meets this requirement.
