Overview

Business really matters in the current challenging global economy. The role of business is to enable commerce and to make the world a better place for all – by creating wealth, jobs, prosperity and choices. The Honours Degree in Business provides students with the depth and breadth of knowledge and skills to work effectively at operational and management level within a business environment in the public or private sector or as a self-employed individual.

Business programmes educate students in a broad range of business principles and functions, providing a solid understanding of the modern business world. Coupled with an opportunity to undertake a semester long work placement at the during third year means that, on graduation, our students are equipped with the necessary core knowledge and skills to contribute immediately and effectively to any organisation.

Students will complete year 1 of their Bachelor of Business (Honours)  BBS at the College of FET Mulgrave St. Campus, Limerick and thereafter complete years 2, 3 and 4 at the Technological University of the Shannon: Moylish Campus.

Accreditation and Embedded Awards

This Tertiary degree is a comprehensive four-year programme which is designed to support academic success.  Should a student have to leave the programme before completing the final year, Tertiary degrees include embedded exit awards.  Embedded awards formally recognise learning achieved during a student’s time on the programme.

  • Exiting after successfully completing Year 1: Level 6 Certificate in Business Studies = 60 ECTS Credits, awarded by the Technological University of the Shannon.
  • Exiting after successfully completing Year 2: Level 6 Higher Certificate in Business Studies = 120 ECTS Credits, awarded by the Technological University of the Shannon.
  • Exiting after successfully completing Year 3: Level 7 Bachelor of Business Studies = 120 ECTS Credits, awarded by the Technological University of the Shannon.

Awarded after successfully completing Year 4: Level 8 Bachelor of Business (Hons) = 240 ECTS Credits, awarded by the Technological University of the Shannon.

Entry Requirements and Eligibility

Leaving Certificate: A minimum of 2 H5 & 4 O6/H7 grades in six Leaving Certificate subjects, including Mathematics and English or Irish.
QQI FET/FETAC Awards are accepted for entry on all courses of study. Please refer to Admissions information for details.
Mature Applicants: Candidates applying as mature applicant may be required to attend an interview/ briefing and may be requested to take an aptitude test to prove their suitability for a place on this programme.
English Language: All applicants whose first language is not English and who have not been educated through the medium of English must demonstrate CEFR 19 proficiency at B2 or IELTS 6.0 for access. An Irish Leaving certificate qualification achieved through English meets this requirement.
International Applicants: International applicants should apply directly to the International Office at TUS, allowing plenty of time for completing the visa process. Applications for a September start should be made by 1st June at the latest to ensure visas are processed in time. You should familiarise yourself with visa processing times for your country of origin to ensure you make a timely application. Find out more here.

 

Onward Pathways

Employment opportunities for graduates include: Human Resources, Sales, Marketing, Management, Teaching (subject to postgraduate study), Accountancy, Banking and Financial Services.

Successful graduates of this programme are eligible for Level 9 and 10 postgraduate programmes within TUS and/or elsewhere.
