Embedded Awards

The programme is designed to support academic success. Should a student have to leave the programme before completing the final year, tertiary degrees include embedded awards. Embedded awards formally recognise learning achieved during time in the programme. For this degree, embedded awards are:

On successful completion of Stage 1 (Year 1), students will receive QQI level 5 award 5M5048.

On successful completion of Stage 2 (Year 2), students will receive QQI level 6 award 6M20496.

On successfully completion of Stage 3 (Year 3), students will receive BA in Animation , Visual Effects and Motion Design MT711.

On successful completion of Stage 4 (Year 4), students will graduate with the MTU award of BA (Hons) in Animation, Visual Effects and Motion Design MT811.

Planned intake (number of places)

An intake of 15 students per year is planned for this programme.

Entry Requirements and Eligibility

The minimum entry requirements for this programme are as follows:

 

Hold Leaving Certificate with five subjects at grade O6

or

Hold Leaving certificate with four subjects at grade O6 and LCVP with distinction

or

Hold QQI Level 4 award with a minimum of a grade of distinction

or

Be mature applicants (i.e. those who are 23 years of age on January 1 of the year of entry into Further Education). Mature applicants do not have to meet the minimum entry requirements listed for the BA(Hons) in Animation, Visual Effect and Motion Design and are considered on an individual basis (previous education, work experience, and demonstration of competence to undertake the programme).

Applicants from the United Kingdom and overseas would need to have educational qualifications of a standard equivalent to the minimum entry requirements above in a General Certificate in Education (GCE), such as the GCE A Level.

Candidates who are non-native speakers of the English language must satisfy the entry criteria at programme commencement detailed in the following link:

Admission to the programme will be coordinated and determined by the ETB through a comprehensive selection process, in collaboration with MTU. All candidates must submit to the ETB:

  • A completed application form
  • A personal statement outlining their interest in and suitability for the course
  • A portfolio showcasing their creative work and technical skills
  • An interview, where candidates will have the opportunity to discuss their work, aspirations, and motivations
